Camera-less Inspiration

November 12, 2005

I recently cashed in a couple of gift cards in exchange for Vogue Knitting. I’ve been pulling it out to do everything, just in case Vogue knows more about each step of knitting than I do–and in most cases, Vogue does. I even pulled it out for instructions on how to knit a gauge swatch. Just to see if Vogue had any good advice. I am now feeling inspired to design my own sweater.

In lighter reading, I’m trying to find an excuse to make the Backyard Leaves scarf from Scarf Style. I’ve got the book out from the library now, and I’m thinking that scarf might be a Christmas present for Grandma.

Another recent library find is Designs for Kids by Lucinda Guy. On first glance the cover looked too young and cute, and the clothes in it look too piddly to make for children who will quickly outgrow them. But I looked inside, and I am loving, loving, loving the little stuffed animals in it! I started a little birdy last night–maybe it will be done by the time i get my camera back.

Another book that I passed over at first glance was Handknit Holidays. I’ve heard folks raving about it on the blogs, but I thumbed through it once a few weeks ago and wasn’t all that excited. But then I was waiting on someone at the bookstore, and I found myself looking through it again, and wow, I must not have been paying attention the first time through. I think I might need some knitted, beaded candle holders. And a St. Lucia wreath. I need one of those, too.
