Due Date!

So today’s the day, the day we’ve been counting down to for 9 months. And, um, I’m not feeling like there’s going to be a baby today, so we’ll be waiting a bit longer. Still, it is fun to say, when folks ask when baby is due, “today.”

I finished up at work a week ago, although I’m still doing a few hours at the yarn shop and teaching a few private lessons. And I’m feeling well–tired and achy now and then, but overall okay with staying pregnant for a few more days if that’s what the kid wants. I’m liking the mix of being active enough to work on getting some things ready, and lazy enough to spend some time relaxing and knitting. I fit in a bit of knitting while watching Martha this morning–that show is such a guilty pleasure. Even better, she had Steven Colbert on, and the mix of her awkward sincerity with his intentional prodding made for a wonderfully uncomfortable hour of TV.

But, as you can tell from my blogging about watching daytime TV, I’m also in a sort of holding pattern where there is a lot of waiting. Soon, so soon, there will be a baby, and that is so much more exciting than the Martha Colbert mix.

Two weeks ago I let a pile of Debbie Bliss Pure Cotton catch my eye at work. I couldn’t decide on just one favorite color, I liked them all, so I came home with enough for a five-color sweater. Yeah, not sure that was a wise decision, but I am still liking the colors. They’re very bright and springy, which is good contrast to all the rain and sleet we’ve been having lately. The single stripe pattern happens by working from either side of a set of circulars, and the yarn is mostly carried, rarely cut along the edge. This’ll keep me from weaving for longer than I knit–but the tangle of five balls hanging off one project is unbelievable. I quickly realized that any of this sweater that isn’t completed before the baby–and the sleepless distraction to follow–just isn’t going to happen. So I’ve been very motivated to finish. And I’m on the last piece now.

Hmmm… I am feeling out of practice with this blogging thing. Should be interesting to see how this space evolves with the addition of a baby, too. Until then, though, thanks for your patience with rambling posts as I try to fill the waiting time.
